PROMISE FULFILLED: EDO STATE GOVERNMENT APPOINTS MS. KINDNESS IDAHOSA, ESQ.

What began as a public commitment at the 14th Rights Above Charity Lecture (RACL) has now become a life-changing reality.

During the event, the Secretary to the Edo State Government made a public pledge to forward a memo to His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo, recommending the employment of Ms. Kindness Ikponwonsa Idahosa — a brilliant young lawyer whose journey has become a symbol of resilience, determination, and possibility for persons with disabilities.

Today, we are proud to celebrate the fulfillment of that promise.

In less than one week after the commitment was made, Governor Monday Okpebholo approved the appointment of Ms. Idahosa as a Law Officer in the Edo State Ministry of Justice — a powerful demonstration of responsive leadership, inclusion, and equal opportunity.

Ms. Idahosa’s story is one that continues to inspire many. Living with Hereditary Sensory Neuropathy, she experienced years away from school due to the challenges associated with her condition. However, through determination, support, and advocacy, she returned to pursue her education with renewed strength.

With support from NAPVID, she successfully completed her law degree, graduating with a Second Class Upper, proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, and has now taken another remarkable step in her professional journey through this appointment.

Her achievement stands as a reminder that disability is never a limitation to excellence, competence, or impact when equal opportunities are provided.

This milestone also reflects the true purpose of the Rights Above Charity Lecture — moving conversations about disability beyond sympathy and charity towards practical, rights-based inclusion that creates real opportunities and lasting change.

We congratulate Ms. Kindness Ikponwonsa Idahosa on this remarkable achievement and commend the Edo State Government for taking a significant step toward inclusive governance and employment.
