GET YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL: DISABILITY NOT A BARRIER.

From August 29th through the month of September, Hitches and Voices aired a special advocacy series titled “Get Your Child to School: Disability Not a Barrier.”
The campaign focused on breaking stereotypes, encouraging enrollment, and proving that disability should never hinder a child’s right to education.

The first session, aired on August 29th, featured two visually impaired students — Osaivwe Imasuen and Gloria Ubong. They shared their educational experiences in Lagos and Edo State, discussing accessibility, support systems, and the empowerment education provides. Both encouraged parents to send their children to school regardless of disability.

The second edition featured Rebecca Mamedu, who emphasized that education is a right, not a privilege. She highlighted the importance of ensuring that every child — including children with disabilities — is given the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

The third edition featured Bimbo Eromosele, a teacher in the school for hearing impaired students , focusing specifically on the importance of education for the Deaf community. The conversation addressed communication barriers, the need for qualified sign-language teachers, and the urgent call for accessible learning environments for deaf children.

The fourth edition featured Rev. Chijioke Benjamin, who discussed the role of the parents with children living with disabilities  in advocating for disability inclusion for their children. He highlighted how parents can help combat stigma by giving their children support and encourage the enrollment of children with disabilities in school.

The month ended with a recap edition summarizing all insights, reinforcing one message:
No child should be denied education because of disability.
